DARE
Every day you face choices and opportunities that have the power to become defining moments in your life. Many days it is tempting to avoid the uncomfortable and dodge the difficult. Most days it is easy to escape the unknown and fear the critics.
But what if you stand up to the scary and step out into adventure? What if you risk the failure and chance the heartbreak? What if you DARE to do something extraordinary?
We believe that teenagers are bold. We believe that teenagers are brave. We believe that teenagers are courageous.
We invite you to join us at the Theodore Leadership Conference as we inspire and challenge high school students to DARE.
DARE to lead.
DARE to serve.
DARE to dream.
DARE to be you.

Speakers
Lawrence Sheffield is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Magic City Woodworks. He is from Birmingham, Alabama, where he resides with his wife Frances and daughter Gray. For nine years, Lawrence served as a professional firefighter/paramedic. He enjoys working with his hands, team building, woodworking, and social entrepreneurship. Lawrence is passionate about creating and sustaining positive working experiences for young men to help them grow in their faith, self-confidence, and professional opportunities.
Lawrence founded Magic City Woodworks in 2013 to help young men bridge the intimidating gap between idleness and meaningful employment. Launched in a one-car garage with donated tools and volunteers, Magic City Woodworks quickly grew into an organization housed in a 12,000-square-foot shop in the heart of downtown Birmingham. They offer a paid apprenticeship to young men who find themselves at the crossroads of unemployment, and apprentices are trained to be teachable, to gain character, and to gain skills that will serve them in future employment. Lisa Brodie is leader who is making a difference at home and abroad. Lisa is a former teacher and a former owner of Mom2Mom, the largest kid’s resale event on the Gulf Coast.
After spending three summers in Africa seeing the desperate need for clean water, Lisa and her husband Curtis founded the non-profit organization Maji Hope in 2009. Maji Hope partners with rural villages in Tanzania to do clean water projects and has been part of 18 projects to date with six more ready to begin. Lisa travels to Africa every six months working with villages on their projects, and she spends time in the U.S. doing multimedia presentations at schools, churches, and events to challenge people to be involved in changing lives around the world. In 2014, Lisa helped a group of 15 African women start a small business group that makes items to help fund their water projects; now the group has over 40 women. In 2017, Lisa and Curtis opened Brodie’s Cream and Bean, an ice cream and coffee shop in Silverhill, Alabama, that has a gift shop filled with African items made by the women's group. Lisa and Curtis have five children who are all involved in Maji Hope. |
Jamey Mosley is a native of Mobile, Alabama. He attended Theodore High School from 2010-2014 where he played football, basketball, ran track, and was a member of the National Honor Society.
After graduating from Theodore High School, Jamey played football at the University of Alabama as a preferred walk on. Through hard work and dedication, he was awarded a scholarship in his sophomore year. While attending Alabama, Jamey was a member of two National Championship teams and four SEC Championship teams. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is actively involved with Athletes in Action, an international sports organization focused on equipping athletes, coaches, and sport-minded individuals to grow in their relationship with Jesus and multiply their life into others. Jamey received the Pat Trammel Award which is given to a senior player whose character and contributions to the Alabama football team most personify the All-American youth of today and reflects qualities of integrity, character, importance of academics, and inspirational leadership during their time at Alabama. Jamey graduated from the University of Alabama in May of 2018 with degrees in Kinesiology and Sports Business Management. Jamey was signed by the New York Jets in May 2019 where he played alongside his brother linebacker CJ Mosley. In December 2019, Jamey signed with the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad. Jamey continues to forge his path and will always be a great ambassador of Theodore High School. |
